Technicolour Fleck Tote Bag

An all-purpose tote bag by Raf Simons and Peter Saville, produced in a limited edition of 200. A meeting of form and fabric from two singular creative minds in the interzone. Simons from fashion and Saville from art and design brought together by Kvadrat to create an object of utility replete with symbolism.

Peter Saville

Peter Saville exists in a territory of his own. His practice occupies a space between art and design, and his unparalleled approach has resulted in a unique contribution to culture. This hybrid position came into being partly through the unprecedented autonomy afforded to him as co-founder and art director of the legendary independent UK label Factory Records.

Unlike most ‘commercial artists’ of the time and indeed since, Saville was free to design without approval. Making his art in the context of mass production, he accessed an audience through pop music, best exemplified in the series of record sleeves he created for Joy Division and New Order between 1979 and 1993.

Raf Simons

Born in Belgium in 1968, Simons studied industrial design in Genk. Inspired by the work of designers such as Martin Margiela, he moved to Antwerp, where the head of the Fashion Department at the city’s Royal Academy encouraged him to start his own label without further study. Launched in 1995, Raf Simons menswear—informed both by classic tailoring and youth culture—had a huge impact on the style of the decade.

In April 2020, Raf Simons joined the Prada brand as Co-Creative Director, working in partnership with Miuccia Prada. A passionate collector of contemporary art and modern design, Simons’ aesthetic is often informed by his admiration for art and he regularly engages in interdisciplinary collaborations.
